Porsche Mass Flow Sensor
The A.P.E. Mass Flow Sensor/ Performance Software Package is a bolt-on kit that converts the existing vane-type airflow sensor to a more accurate and much less restrictive sensor. | The mass flow sensor is installed on the engine in place of the existing airflow sensor. The new air filter attaches to the sensor itself, eliminating the need for the bulky and restrictive factor air box assembly. A connector plugs directly into the stock wire harness and the chip is a plug-in replacement for the stock chip in the ECU. The new chip is programmed with all of the changes that allow the existing the control unit to work with the new mass flow sensor. Installation is simple, straightforward, and completely reversible |

Mass Flow vs. Air Flow
The current airflow-sensing unit in your car is probably a "vane-type" airflow sensor. A flap in the intake air stream swings open with increasing airflow, and from the angular position of the vane, the computer infers the airflow. This system is restrictive since the vane is mounted directly in the airflow. In addition, the vane must be damped to balance excess sensitivity against response time. These factors seriously restrict the overall potential airflow and engine response.

| The A.P.E. MFS kit uses a "hot wire" type mass flow meter. In this unit the intake air flows over a heated wire and the amount of air required to keep the wire at a constant temperature determines the amount of airflow. Further, the output automatically reflects changes in barometric pressure, air density, ambient air temperature, and relative humidity. This allows us to tune the engine based on much more accurate input that translates into better throttle response and more power. Best of all the MFS does all of this with very little restriction in the air intake! |
